intro

Anthony Strutt examines 'Live Again!', a recently discovered mixing desk tape of a 1973 gig from under-valued folk artist and protest singer Phil Ochs which finally sees the light of day

Phil Ochs' first three albums were all released on Elektra, while his remaining five albums were released on A&M, where he stayed until his death by his own hand in 1976. Very little of his work remains in circulation, which is surprising as he had a strong delivery and an excellent guitar player. 'Live Again!' was recorded at a gig Ochs played at The Stables in East Lansing in Michigan on May 26th 1973. He was very much part of the Greenwich Village protest music scene, and was hailed by Dylan is being something very special until the end. He was very much of his time, singing songs about the flower power era while anti Nixon number, 'I Ain't Marching Anymore@< is one of the best protest songs I have ever heard. 'Live Again' reveals a true talent that has sadly faded out of public conscience.
