intro
Mournful yet ultimately uplifting first single from his seventh album for acclaimed Sheffield-based singer-songwriter, Richard Hawley
This is the first single from Richard Hawley's upcoming seventh album and is inspired by personal bereavement, the contemplation of life, our place in it and a desire to live in the moment. 'Leave Your Body Behind' is attention grabbing and mixes guitars, distortion and elements of psychedelia to great effect. "Is there anymore?" Hawley asks, backed by a ghostly chorus. Every time I listen to it I pick out more spine tingling lyrics that seem to pin point the questions and musing that so often seem to follow the loss of a loved one or standing on the edge of that precipice yourself. It avoids clichés and maudlin wailing and is actually uplifting. If Hawley intended this song as any sort of tribute to those he has lost I think this is spot on. Despite living in the same Steel City Hawley so often references, I am not overly familiar with his substantial body of work but this makes me want to go and track down all of it. The single version is backed by both album and instrumental versions.
