Hello and welcome to the March 2015 edition of the Pennyblackmusic Magazine. Pennyblackmusic has been given a major upgrade and makeover during the past few weeks. While we have not strayed too dramatically from the format that we have had in the past – it is still recognisably Pennyblackmusic – we have given it a cleaner and we feel a more contemporary and uncluttered look. We have also made our site a lot more interactive. There are relevant links on each page now to videos from YouTube about the artists we are writing about and photographing, and also where one can buy the CDs and vinyl albums which we are choosing to promote from Amazon and eBay. In the twenty-first century we know we are not alone in still caring about such things over digital music. If there is a word that sums up all this, it is “approachability”. We want to provide a site that is as modern in its look and what it does as it is original and unique, and in which we are backing up more fully what we are saying elsewhere. We have always seen Pennyblackmusic as a work in the progress throughout the sixteen years that we have now been online, and in the time ahead hope that it will continue to be exactly that. We will be putting other changes through in the near future and across 2015. We will be putting into place a new Home Page to match the new Magazine Page, and, with our increased emphasis on original photography at Pennyblackmusic, will be doing a lot more to highlight the work of our photographers on the site with a Photography section and pages for them. Often in the past we have used the Editorial column to highlight and list the articles we are publishing each month. We will not be doing that this month, and possibly a lot less in future months. All but eight of the eighty or so articles -interviews, features, regular columns and album and single reviews –on the Magazine Page are new, and we feel that it is important that, for better, for worse, this month of all months, things speak for themselves. To put a magazine together and to run a site of this size involves the hard work of a lot of talented people. Thank you to Alexia Arrizabalaga, Carl Bookstein, Malcolm Carter, Daniel Cressey, Nicky Crewe, Anthony Dhanendran, Dastardly, Nick Dent-Robinson, Tony Gaughan, Dave Goodwin, Keith How, Ben Howarth, Adrian Huggins, Adrian Janes, Richard Lewis, Erick Mertz, Mary O’ Meara, Owen Peters, Jon Rogers, Mark Rowland, Maarten Schiethart, Billy Seagrave, Dominic Simpson, Melanie Smith, Anthony Strutt and Lisa Torem, all of whom have contributed to this edition. We will be back in late March with an album and singles reviews update, and then in April with a full edition. We hope then to run all our regular features and interviews among others with the Rezillos, the Gang of Four, the Lilac Time, the Granite Shore, Vikesh Kapoor, the Saints, the Cathode Ray, Robert Chaney, Sara Lowes and photographer Nick Elliott. Please don’t forget to check out our regular Facebook and Twitter updates. Thank you as always for visiting Pennyblackmusic, John Clarkson Magazine Editor Richard Banks Webmaster
