Kelley Stoltz - ULU, London, 5/6/2008

intro
Kelley Stoltz recently support in both America and Britian to gutsy garage rockers the Dirtbombs. At a gig at the ULU in London, Anthony Strutt is impressed by both his quirky tunes and his true sense of musical craftmanship
This is only the second time that I have seen Kelley Stolz live, and he shines brightly despite being squeezed in-between the Kits who are Australians who want to be an Iggy-flavoured Supergrass and headliners the Dirtbombs who play a killer of a set. Kelley has a strong presence so when the keyboards die towards the end he happily jams and entertains the crowd until they decide to rejoin the rest of us. It's only a short set which Kelley presents us with, but he also ends up on stage jamming with the Dirtbombs at the end of their set. He plays eight songs each of which are all differently and with a sense of true craftmanship in the style of Neil Diamond at his best or even Warren Zevon. He is well recieved but everyone in the crowd is there for the headliners. They, however, humour him when he tells us tales of Woodstock and delivers a brilliant tale of the return of Jesus, each of which is told in true workmanship style. A really great artist that needs more ears to listen his way. You won't be disappointed.
