intro
50's influenced beatnik guitar-rock on second single from the Raveonettes’ third album 'Pretty in Black’
This is the second single from the Raveonettes’ third album 'Pretty in Black’. On it the coolest 50's beatnik guitar ever jangles over the greatest boy / girl duet in my entire CD collection. Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo are the coolest front people in a band since the era that influenced them so much. ‘Love in a Trash Can’ is 50’s influenced and throws in a hint of the very early 60’s for good measure. When this is played live, it is the perfect song to pogo too. ‘Vamp Scratch Whore’ is the first of the B sides on the CDS version of ‘Love in a Trash Can’. It is again primitive sounding and has a 50"s twang. It is very much like a song from the Raveonettes idol Buddy Holly, but is far from being their best song. The CDS also features the video and two remixes of ‘Love in a Trash Can’. The first by Dreadnaught is clubby and full of beats, and leaves only Sharin’s vocal audioable, but at least it leaves the twangy guitar alone. The second remix is by Funkstorung. It again is clubby but, slowed right down, has a X Files spookiness to it. It sounds like a record that has been warped and is very strange. There are also pink and red vinyl 7” versions of ‘Love in a Trash Can’. The B side of the pink vinyl is ‘Be My Sunshine’, a 50’s sounding number with big Phil Spector values and lots of percussion, which givie it a Christmas feel. The B side of the red vinyl 7” is ‘Railroad Tracks’ which finds the Raveonettes in country vein and is reminiscent of Mojave 3. Perfect !
