intro
First single from their new third album from Denmark's much acclaimed the Raveonettes, which finds frontwoman Sharin Foo sharing joint vocals with original girl's group survivor, Ronnie Spector
Ah, my new favourite band are back... 'Ode to LA' is the first single from their forthcoming third album, 'Pretty in Black' and has been released only on 10 inch vinyl. The Raveonettes have always loved 60's girl groups, and the first 30 minutes of "Pretty in Black' apparently has that feel. On 'Ode to LA' Sharin Foo, who has now switched from bass to electric guitars, shares joint lead vocal with ex-Ronette and original girl's group member, Ronnie Spector. The whole song not surprisingly has a Phil Spector production to it, and it feels like Christmas has come early. The B side is a cover of the old Hank Williams country classic, 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry.' Delivered on acoustic guitar and with lead vocals by Sune Rose Wagner, and backing vocals by Sharin, it is sung in clear crystal fasion and in sad country tones. It is still a style unfamiliar to many Raveonettes fans, but still a long way ahead of the rest of the pack Cool stuff indeed. Long live the Raveonettes.God, how I have missed this band !
