intro

Eccentric, but superb post-punk from vulnerably wise Edinburgh-based duo, the Vacuum Spasm Babies

The new wave pop of Vacuum Spasm Babies can be described as both quirky and melodic. Their debut album leans heavily on late 1980's eccentric post-punk but also has smoothening turns. Outstanding is the Vacuum Spasm Babies'sense of vulnerable wisdom. The title track 'Whipping Clowns' was available before on their previous EP and then seemed slightly out of place. Amidst the orchestrated chaos, 'Whipping Clowns' now sits proudly at the bridge of the Vacuum Spasm Babies' low-key Teardrop Explodes type of pop music and their zany, lazy soundscapes. I have had this review copy for weeks, so I can honestly vouch for the album's durability. Forget about your Maximo Ferdinand Monkeys, Vacuum Spasm Babies are the band for the future
