intro
Superb debut single from urgent, yet melodic Manchester band the Slow Readers club, which consists of several former members of Omerta
In the middle of the last decade a new Manchester band, Omerta, appeared briefly with a trio of excellent singles but, just when a debut album would have lifted them clear of their underground status, they disappeared. Now the best part of five years later, three of the four members of Omerta, including singer Aaron Starkie, have resurfaced under new moniker the Slow Readers Club. This time they have an album ready to go and if it is anywhere near as good as debut single 'Sirens' it will be something rather special indeed. Urgent, yet melodic and with a lyric that questions whether or not religion can replace the thrill of youth as you get older, 'Sirens' is the sort of track that Interpol have been unable to write since their debut LP. Omerta may have missed the boat, but I doubt the Slow Readers Club will.
