Dance-based electronica on new single from the Mercury Prize-nominated Maps, the project of James Chpman
Now nominated for the Mercury, James Chapman aka Maps returns with a new single, ‘You Don’t Know Her Name’, which is one of the stand out tracks on his recent debut album, ’We Can Create’. ‘You Don't Know Her Name’ is a trippy dance number. It is one of this summer's best tracks, not that we have really had a summer this year, A perfect trip basically, like something that might have been recorded in the summer of love, but done in an electronica style. It comes in both a CDS and vinyl version. ‘The Field Remix’ which appears on the 7 inch is totally pointless. All James’ vocals have been removed and it sounds like a stuck record as it plays a few notes of the tune, sounds like it is jamming and then it starts up again. ‘Fall Apart’, the first track on the CDS, is a jolly number, again trippy, but quite lightweight in a soft Slowdive sort of way. ‘Elouise (6 Toes Remix)’ has soft strings, violins and plucked cello, which give it a sad feel. James' vocal is almost a whisper. The track changes direction mid song, developing a Mojave 3-style country vibe and as it climaxes becomes more dramatic.
