intro
Andrew Twambley photographs former Sex Pistols member Glen Matlock, who was joined by David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick, at a show at Rebellion in Manchester.
Glen Matlock will always be best known for being Sid Vicious' predecessor on bass in the Sex Pistols, and for co-composing with John Lydon punk classics such as 'God Save the Queen', Holidays in the Sun', 'Pretty Vacant' and 'Anarchy in the UK'. Since leaving the Sex Pistols in January 1977, Matlock has had an ecletic career that has seem him work with band such as the Rich Kids, the reformed Faces and acoustic punk super group Dead Man Walking, as well as release five solo albums. He spent May and June touring in support of his latest solo album, 'Good to Go', accompanied by David Bowie and John Lennon guitarist David Bowie who had also performed on it. These photographs of Matlock and Slick were taken by Andrew Twambley at a gig at Rebellion in Manchester on the 31st May. "It was one of those special nights" recalls Andrew, "...one that could not be predicted. It was a tiny club, reminiscent of the 3rd June '76 at The Lesser Free Trade Hall, 200 yards away, where Buzzcocks hosted the Pistols for the very first time in Manchester...,the gig that changed the world. Glen placed no reliance at all on Sex Pistols material, reluctantly doing 'Pretty Vacant' as an encore. The music was, however, great as was the sound quality. Slick is a total legend and made the whole gig...he is the ultimate cool rock star. What a legacy these two guys have!...There was no pit but luckily I arrived early and held high ground. It was WONDERFUL." The Rebellion showalso saw a special guest aappearance by guitarist Neal X of Sigue Sigue Sputnik and the Montecristos and who is also Marc Almond's band leader and guitarist.
