Peter Murphy - Photoscapes

intro

Andrew Twambley photographs former Bauhaus front man Peter Murphy at a show at The Ritz in Manchester.

Peter Murphy was joined by Bauhaus co-founding member David J for a series of shows across November and December in Europe and the UK. They played Bauhaus’ 1980 album ‘In the Flat Field’ in its entirety plus an extended encore of Bauhaus classics. Originally formed in Northampton in 1978, post-punk band Bauhaus carved out a singular musical niche combining dark art school rock and glam with experimentalism. After having a break-out hit with the bleakly brooding ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead” in 1979, they signed to 4AD. ‘In the Flat Field’ was followed by another three albums on Beggars Banquet, ‘Mask’ (1981), ‘The Sky’s Gone Out’ (1982) and ‘Burning From the Inside ‘(1983). Bauhaus split in the early 1980s and have reformed briefly on several occasions throughout the years. Band members went on to focus on other projects such as Love and Rockets and Tones On Tail, while Murphy has enjoyed a successful solo career. These photographs of Peter Murphy were taken on a show on the tour at the Ritz in Manchester on December 4th. Photos by Andrew Twambley http://twambley.com/
