intro
Sublime 60's-influenced twee pop on second album from eight-piece Cardiff-based band, the School
Two years on from their charming debut, 'Loveless Unbeliever', Cardiff's the School return with a sublime second LP in the shape of 'Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything', which builds on all the great elements of indie-pop and 60's girl singers that made their debut such a delight. Singer Liz Hunt could easily have held her own back in the day with the likes of Lulu, Petula Clark and Sandie Shaw and her songs certainly embrace the twee innocence of 60's pop songs with 'Stop That Boy' and 'That Boy Is Mine' being the most obvious examples on the current album. 'Why Do You Have To Break My Heart Again?' with its Wedding Presen-tesque title is another fine pop song that, with the right backing, would be topping the charts the world over, while 'It's Not The Same' is much more reflective, but equally good. Indeed, the best compliment I can give the School is that they are just behind Allo Darlin' as the finest girl fronted indie-pop band around right now. In fact, if Carlsberg did schools.............
