"Art school racket of tuneless discordant genius" on debut single from new Cardiff-based act and "revelation" The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club
Having just signed to the highly regarded Fantastic Plastic label (who launched none other than the Futureheads), The Victorian English Gentlemen’s Club (VEGC) are an art school racket of tuneless discordant genius. Hailing from Cardiff, the VEGC are Warhol- fancying frontman Adam Taylor accompanied by the black clad rhythm section of Louise Mason and Emma Daman whose shambolic howling underpins the chorus of this debut release. 'The Tales of Hermit Mark' is three minutes of messy art rock rioting, an unassuming yet infectious intro that gives way to a downright dangerous riff clawed straight off of the walls of a dingy indie club playing Ikara Colt. Taylor’s grimy and urgent vocals then throw themselves head first into the boozy din. VEGC are a revelation. They are sharp, angular, gritty and quite possibly this is the single of the year.
