intro
Striking EP of deep Americana from Tucson-based group XIXA
This EP from XIXA, which is culled off a forthcoming album, features four songs, each one of which is strong enough to form a highlight on that next album. The Southern drawl in Gabriel Sullivan’s voice gives away XIXA’s roots. They come from Tucson, Arizona, USA, which is not exactly known to be a place to be invited to a waltz. These four appetizers nonetheless very much lead us into a frenzy of some sorts. There is full breeze cumbia on one song, 'Kumbia Okult', which in hindsight makes sense, given the band's Latin credentials. Four excellent songs make up an excellent EP, ten inch on vinyl, but it remains to be seen whether XIXA could deliver another half a dozen more songs of this quality. Who knows? Unlike most EPs this is not just one song with a few filler tracks. No, sir, certainly not. 'Osiris', for example, is a track that no Big Star/Alex Chilton enthusiast would want to miss out on. 'Osiris' would not have gone amiss on the third Big Star LP. This coded 10 inch indeed makes me rather curious.
