intro

Late 1990s breezy and carefree synthesizer disco pop with an edgy quality on debut album from West Coast pop-influenced Portugese band, Mira, Un Lobo!

Er...not quite, but let me explain. First and foremost 'Heart Beats Slow' works like a drone, circling around one's ears with echoes of milk and honey holiday memories. Think Ibiza mania without the array of numbing down pills consumed. Think of a sparkling siltbreeze, crisp sounds and of subdued anthems. There are plenty of those come humming tunes whilst ultimately quite many end in exaltation. Mira, Un Lobo! fill the gap left between A-ha and Enya. Instead of switching to Euro Song Festival mode, such as on, for example, 'Like Punching Glass', pathos and melodrama provide an overarm. The latter path, the latter parts, to 'Heart Beats Slow' meanwhile lead to mesmerizing moments which bear zilch in common with trendy disco pop. There are a few rather flat compositions. Soulful vocals using not exactly meaningful words sometimes melts together with mildly experimental music, but this is essentially a daring album. caught off the coast halfway between Lisbon and Stockholm.
