intro
At the Wilmington Arms Anthony Strutt enjoys a night of Velvet Underground-influenced punk from Leeds-based group the Blanche Hudson Weekend at their first London gig
The Blanche Hudson Weekend play their debut London gig at the Wilmington Arms. They play for just 27 minutes, but this is is perfect really as they include everything they have released to date including all of their three 7 inch singles and eps. Their sound is a buzzsaw mix of the Primitives, House of Love, C86 fun and a dash of the Velvet Underground and a slash of the Jesus and Mary Chain. Two of the members, singer Caroline and guitarist Darren, were previously in the Manhattan Love Suicides. With their Nico fronting the Velvet Undergound vibe, this has been an excellent first gig for this great new band from Leeds. Set List Noise and Fury Fever Van Song for Kristen Crying Shame Let Me Go Last Ride. Only Snow Tonight Washes the Floor with Us
