intro
Elegant and sophisticated-sounding new single plus remixes from German house/techno artist Mark Henning
A big moog synthesizer sound builds up an odd tension on 'All Star Geek', which has got elegance stamped all over it. As in The Beauty and The Beast this is a two-faced monster; the original certainly is tough, tight and solid and I like those eerie effects. The 'Let's Go Outside' remix pushes the limits even a little further. If techno and house music were around in the aftermath of the Big Bang it may well have sounded like this. The eerie effects off the original get blown up to full proportions now. The universe is one big disco, you know. The B-Side's 'Moody Bastard' has finger clicking that kickstarts (no pun) the percussion structure. Just like handclapping I always find this a weak sign in pop music, yet here it brings a welcome addition. One break, one big thump to make the beats go pounding again; simple yet ever so effective. The Ed Davenport mix of 'Moody Bastard' enters a darker world on a flying carpet of squeeky bumps, and a in grand manner leaves after mission accomplished. Not as sophisticated as Let's Go Outside's remix of the A-Side but deep and rich in sound and rhythm, it is probably the one that will the floor around 2 in the morning.
