intro
Mildly disappointing second single from the Cure's forthcoming new album, which is eclipsed by its stunning B side
‘Freakshow’ is the second single from the Cure’s new album which is due out in September and is the follow up to last month's ‘The Only One’ single. It was previewed at their March Wembley gig, and is very beefy in sound. It is much more guitar-based than their other work of recent years, and there is a hint of metal in the style of Smashing Pumpkins pushing through it. Robert Smith is in perky mode, and it is an easy example of what the Cure now do in the year 2008. ‘All Kinds of Stuff’ is for me as a long term fan a much better song. In the vein of ‘Never Enough ‘ it is full of angst and fury with guitars that drag you in, and instantly put a smile on my face. It would make a decent album track and is really too good to be a mere B side.
