intro
Spectacular collection of obscure 50's and 60's songs with a loose horror theme, saved from the vaults by Liverpool's Viper label
'The Ultimate 50's & 60's Rockin' Horror Disc' has been saved from the vaults by the Viper label in Liverpool, and starts with 'I'm the Wolfman' by Round Robin which sets the tone and illustrates what is to come : a great ball of rockin' horror fun. It's not all truly menacing twang: 'The Monster Hop' (Bert Convy) sounds like Paul Anka waking up from a nightmare. 'The Vampires' (Archie King) hop around in the best doo wop fashion . Adams Family addicts moreover will find this Viper compilation is a gem and a jolly treasure. An obscure version of 'Red Ridin' Hood and The Wolf' by Bunkerhill alone makes 'The Ultimate 50's & 60's Rockin' Horror Disc' worth getting. You get on it a screeching maniac (similar to Little Richard) backed by a real smooth choir (think Pointer Sisters!). If you want to get mates with the bartender this is your ultimate X-Mas present to him or her. Today 'Morgos The Magnificent' (with the Ghouls) is wild throbbing yet harmless stuff but back in that era, people needed to get away from the con of the Cold War. Communist invaders from Mars with radioactive goolies were thought to be lurking in the shades. 'She's my Witch' (Kip Tyler) links to the subdued eroticism in the Fifties but the real lubricant wack is 'Vampires Ball' by one, unmistakingly British Mann Drake. Compiled with care, it's extraterrestrial fun in the rocking chair.
