intro

Richard Lewis watches Portland, Oregon alt. rock legends the Dandy Warhols celebrate their twenty-fifth anniversary by playing an eclectic and career-spanning set at the Albert Hall in Manchester.

Celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary, US alt. rock legends the Dandy Warhols are marking their quarter century with a world tour and new LP, ‘’Why You So Crazy?’. Playing to a near-capacity crowd at the beautiful Albert Hall, Manchester, the Portland, Oregon quartet powered through tracks from the new disc, their tenth album alongside a career spanning set of cuts. Recent singles ‘Be Alright’, ‘Motor City Steel’ and ‘Forever’ slotted in seamlessly with a slow burning rendition of ‘Godless’ and indie disco classic ‘Bohemian Like You’, both from the band’s commercial highwater mark, 2000’s ‘Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia’. Elsewhere songs from the group’s 2003 LP ‘Welcome to the Monkey House’, ‘You Were the Last High’ and the theme tune to cult 2000s TV series ‘Veronica Mars’ ‘We Used to Be Friends’ showcased the Dandy Warhol’s successful foray into synth pop. A thunderous version of traditional show closer, ‘Pete International Airport / Boys Better’, as balloons rained down from the ceiling of the former Wesleyan Chapel, meanwhile demonstrated the quartet still have plenty more years on the clock. Odditorium Or Warlords Of Mars (2005)
Disappointingly over-experimental and self-indulgent fifth album from the usually far more reliable Dandy Warhols
