intro
Our Website of the Month is TalkingGigs, a unique Sheffield-based project and concept which combines conversation and music.
Self-defining itself as "discovery through music", TalkingGigs www.talkinggigs.co.uk is the project and concept of Sheffield-based music fan and radio host Charles Ritchie. TalkingGigs "is a brand new live experience which gives you the chance to hear top artists from the UK and around the world, in intimate venues, play and talk about their music, instruments, culture, countries...and to ask questions about whatever aspects of the music interests you." TalkingGigs aims to give music fans "an unforgettable night of ‘unplugged’ music. Think of it as a cross between your favourite alternative music show and your favourite talk /interview format." "Every TalkingGig offers unique insights into the life, work and culture of an artist, mixing conversation with intimate musical performance, questions from the audience and sometimes visuals. It’s an immersive ride into another world, a chance to get close and personal with some of the musicians you love and hear them talk about their countries, cultures, instruments and influences, illustrating their words with unique performances of their best known songs." Since launching in the summer of 2014, TalkingGigs have featured guests including Abdallah ag Alhousseyni from Tinariwen, Bassekou Kouyate, Vieux Farka Toure, Songhoy Blues, Emmanuel Jal, Souad Massi, Robyn Hitchcock, Sam Lee, Jim Moray, Aurelio , Mor Karbasi. It will be announcing its Spring series of dates soon. TalkingGigs also broadcasts on Thursdays between 4-5 p.m. its own fortnightly show, which is presented by Chales Ritchie, on Sheffield Live! Radio (93.2FM( or streamed live at http://www.sheffieldlive.org/player/index.php). TalkingGigs hopes to bring in the near future its gigs outside Sheffield and to other venues across the UK.
