intro
Thrilling and raunchy garage blues debut album from Vancouver-based girl duo, the Pack 4.A.D.
The Pack A.D. are a raunchy garage blues girl/girl duo from Vancouver. Becky Black, vocals and guitar, and Maya Miller on drums use clichés to maximum effect and don't shy away from trying to go over the top. Too sane and down-to-earth to slip into a psychotic muddy water though, the blues always predominates on 'Tintype' - no matter how haunting Becky's slide guitar might sound at certain stages. The far away echoes resonating from her slide guitar bring forth suspension and tension, exactly building the type of background to which Becky Black's scream-singing simply can't fail. There's a Ry Cooder-ish moment on 'Got Up' as if the cat crept in begging for a moment of quiet. Yet, when next, Becky sings she wants to be the lover man, you know it will not be like this. Instead the closing track 'Bone Handle' goes to show the demasculinization of the blues. What, back in the early 1990s, Dickless meant to grunge, The Pack A.D. means much the same to blues punk.
