intro
Strong debut album of Britpop-influenced rock from Irish band the Brothers Movement, who seem destined for higher things
Despite having only formed in 2007, the Brothers Movement have already rubbed shoulders with the likes of the Jesus Mary Chain, Sonic Youth and the Chemical Brothers and held their own effortlessly. This Dublin indie/modern band make me think of the Verve. They are not a copycat band at all, but I got the feeling that a few tracks had a Richard Ashcroft influence. Their lead singer Neil Paxton does indeed sound like Ashcroft which is no hindrance either. They have an Oasis/Mondays/Roses / Manchester hue but are different enough to hold their own. You, therefore, get that Britpsych/Britpop feel with the music. It is only a matter of time before the band tip to the next level which is BIG. It could be now as there is a gap to be plugged currently. There are no bands bringing out this style of music out now and it always gets a big happy, smiling, swaying following. Lyrically the band tell a tale well. They also have the drifty psychedelic quality that made those earlier bands successful. They already have ‘Festival’ embedded deep in their bloodline and it will be no surprise to see them headlining in future. A great band that’s going places and a definite for your collection.
