intro
Perfect second single from his latest 'Years of Refusal' album for Morrissey
‘Something is Squeezing My Skull’ is the second single from Morrisey’s ‘Years of Refusal’ album. It follows on from ‘I'm Throwing My Arms around Paris’, and, thrashy in sound and the first track on the album, is perfect both as an opening number and also as a single too. It features Morrissey on very fine form indeed and, very much a crowd pleaser, is being released to plug his current live UK Dates. Its three live B Sides are all taken from a live gig at the BBC Radio Theatre. The launch gig for the album, it was recorded by Radio 2 and broadcast a week after the event took place. ‘Something is Squeezing My Skull’ appears in both a 7 inch and also two CDS versions. On the 7 inch we are given ‘I Keep Mine Hidden’, a Smiths track which appeared originally on the 12 inch of ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’ and which is a pretty laid back effort. This Charming Man’, a live version of another great Smiths track, and which appears on the first CDS, is, however, truly massacred. The best B side by far appears on the second CDS and is a live version of a new track called ‘Best Friend on the Payroll’. Lyrically it could be true and musically it is both ballsy and full of fire.
