intro
Appealing set of roots-rock, psychedelia and garage rock on third solo album and first record in twelve years from former Long Ryders member, Tom Stevens
Only the third ever full-length solo release by the one-time member of the Long Ryders and his first since 1995’s ‘Another Room’, ‘Home’, Tom Steven’s latest, was triggered into being by his family’s move to a new house in 2003, at which time a new home studio was also purchased… Entirely self-written and produced as well as almost wholly performed by Stevens, ‘Home’ reveals a talent that deserves to be heard much more frequently. Comfortably at ‘Home’ on a set of roots-rock, psychedelia and garage-flavoured songs, diversity is no stranger to Tom Stevens and his evident guitar mastery is revealed to often stunning effect – from the reverb-drenched opener ‘Ghost Train’ via the blistering pyrotechnics of ‘Tornado’ to the evocative solos on the epic ballad ‘Away From The Great Cold City’, which also features his best vocal performance of the album. A work of quality and depth from an artist heard from all too rarely, ‘Home’ comes strongly recommended.
