Fightstar - Fightstar 1

intro
Katie Anderson photographs post hardcore/emo act Fightstar at a show at the Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms...
Initially much derided in the rock press because of their front man Charlie Simpson's previous career as a member of the boys' band Busted, Fightstar have over the last three years earned increasing critical acclaim and support for their driving post hardcore/emo sound and blistering live shows. The group, which as well as Simpson, also consists of Alex Westaway (vocals, guitar), Dan Haigh (bass) and Omar Abadi (drums), released their debut album, 'Grand Unification' on Island in 2005, but tore up their contract with the label after Island tried to push them into releasing a follow-up with more of a pop sound. A second album, 'One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours', came out on Institute Records, an offshoot of the independent label Gut Records, in September. These photographs were taken by Katie Anderson exclusively for Pennyblackmusic and come in two parts which we are running consecutively. The photographs in the first part were taken at a gig at the Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms on the 12th October. Those in the second part were shot earlier on that day at a local boutique Dress Code www.dress-code.co.uk where Fightstar took part in a record signing.
