intro
Spencer Robertshaw finds a new Sonicbond book on Blur v,ery much woth reading
Blur – vocalist Damon Albarn, bassist Alex James, guitarist Graham Coxon and drummer Dave Roundtree – formed in 1988 and became a Britpop smash with many fantastic tunes. They were often compared in quality to Oasis, and there were legendary arguments between Liam Gallagher and Damon Albarn in particular. At one point the Oasis singer offered Damon Albarn a boxing match as he had managed to wind Liam right up in one of their famous exchanges bur it never actually happened Stuff like that is, however. great publicity… ‘Blur: Every Album, Every Song’ is a complete detailed record of the band’s career. Pictures are included in the centre of the book, a popular for fun to provide fun and interesting sparkle and gloss. This book is perfect for fans of Blur or Britpop. There is a complete breakdown of every song that the band recorded and facts about the important parts of each song e,g. if the chorus has a special meaning and whether extra musicians were involved, There perhaps could be more details for some of the songs, but I think readers and fans will get a lot out of this. It will maybe be great for a pub chat with music mates. That’s if we can afford to go to the pub now. The publisher Sonicbond Publishing has a very good operating policy, in which it uses writers that don’t have to have professional experience , They may have been journalists in the music industry, but Sonicbond's main criteria is enthusiasm and subject knowledge with first-time or new writers welcome, which will provide many with an important first foot on the ladder.. Sonicbond also publish books on the TV and film industry, and have a great back catalogue. The writer for this book is Matt Bishop who has a 15-year CV of writing for various entertainment publications. He was also songwriter for the indie rock band Switche. This book comes recommended as both a coffee table nook and a fan’s go to dictionary on Blur. It is very much worth reading.
