Hello and welcome to the April edition of the Pennyblackmusic Magazine and our new look website. Lockdown has been a terrible experience, but some good has come out of it, and in Pennyblackmusic's case it is a new website. When our webmaster Richard Banks was unable to go home and meet up with his family over Christmas, he decided to start rebuilding our website. It was something that we had wanted to do for a while as we were working with an old server, and he was constantly having to mend things so that we could continue to get articles and reviews online. Two weeks off over Christmas – in what otherwise would have been a miserable experience - gave him the headstart he needed, and since then he has continue to work on it until three months later we have a new website. We will let the results of this -and the new magazine speak for themselves - but we are very proud of it. People ask me sometimes why Pennyblackmusic has kept going for so long. It will be twenty-three years this September, and I think that it is down to a lot of factors – the long-term friendships of many of our writers, a genuine sense of excitement and anticipation about who we will come across or write about or interview next, and also certainly a sense of bloody-mindedness and belligerence – but above all else it is down to Richard. Without his dedication, experience, calmness when things have gone wrong and knowledge, we would simply not function at all. Huge thanks to Richard. Thank you to Kimberly Bright, Malcolm Carter, Nicky Crewe, Julie Cruickshank, Nick Dent-Robinson, Anthony Dhanendran, Zena Greig, Tommy Gunnarsson, Adrian Janes, Steve Kinrade, Richard Lewis, Eoghan Lyng, Steve Miles, Mark Rowland, Maarten Schiethart, Lisa Torem, Andrew Twambley, Cila Warncke and Denzil Watson for all their contributions to this edition. One of the articles in this new edition is a tribute from his close friend Nicky Crewe to our writer Keith How, who died unexpectedly in January. Keith would have been very enthusiastic about the new website as he was in general when it came to Pennyblackmusic. This new edition is once again dedicated to his memory. Thank you as always for reading Pennyblackmusic, John Clarkson Magazine Editor www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk
