Kynnet - Silloin Kun Sä Lähdit / Muutossa Kadonnut
Label: Kynett
Format: 7"

intro

Melodic but stormy garage pop from Helsinki-based singer-guitarist Kynnet

The first run of 150 copies of seven inch 45s is released in a standard label cover, but a dark green cover - the negative of a pastel drawing of roses - accompanies the download. Perhaps this is indicative of Kynnet, the alias of Teemu Tanner, who in recent times went through heartache and love sickness. Whilst maturing from ramshackle to ingenuous garage punk pop, Kynnet has kept his calm, resulting in a quasi streamlined track which heavens above a certain John Peel might endorse. Even though I do not understand a single word of Finnish, the message does filter through. Full of sorrow, 'Silloin Kun Sä Lähdit'(When You Went) sounds like a mighty streak of striking harmonic yet equally dissonant chords, on a par with Ty Segall and Plastic Bertrand, to name just two references. Kynnet's debut 45 for Oslo's Black Pop Records caught my ear a few years ago and this brand new single sounds even better. On the flip side 'Muutossa Kadonnut'(Moved, Lost) Kynnet tends towards garage blues punk, yet it is energetic like the A-Side yet one gear lower and it hits just as hard. Kynnet is typically one of those acts who'll you miss right now. He can't perform in shoebox-sized student cities, yet once it's all over embrace him in the venue of your choice.
