Hello and welcome to the February edition of Pennyblackmusic Magazine, our first of 2018. In September Pennyblackmusic will be twenty years old and we will be celebrating this with a special event, which we will have more news about soon. Twenty years is a long time to do anything, and for the majority of them we have been doing two updates a month - a full edition of our magazine with interviews, features, regular columns, live reviews and album and single reviews, and then a smaller update in between for album and single reviews. Our commitment to music remains undiminished, but due to a variety of personal factors we have decided to take a slight step back this year and to do full updates every six weeks and then the smaller updates every three weeks between. We hope, therefore, to do eight full magazines this year, and for this first edition of 2018 have our usual range of interviews with both established and newer artists. In our lead interview Denzil Watson chats to Baz Warne from the Stranglers about their forthcoming Definitive Tour. Our other main interviews are with Cindy Wilson from the B-52s about her debut solo album 'Change'; Neal Smith, the drummer with the original Alice Cooper group, about their reunion for a set of recent UK dates; Simon Nicol from Fairport Convention about his group's continued extensive touring over fifty years after they first formed, and ex-Mansun front man Paul Draper about his recent solo album and first record in a decade, 'Spooky Action'. Other interviews include acclaimed Americana duo the Lost Brothers; Irish electronic trio Tiny Magnetic Parts who recently toured with OMD; Chicago-based prog rock act Tautologic; orchestral Leeds-based band Tomorrow We Sail on their second album 'The Shadows', and young Liverpool singer-songwriter Esme Bridie on her debut album 'Today It Rains' which will be released in March on vinyl and download only. Other highlights include features on Bert Jansch, indie outfit Felt and Neil Diamond, who has recently announced that he is stopping touring after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. On a personal and very sad note, we also pay tribute to our writer Mary O'Meara who died in December. She will always be missed. Thank you to Carl Bookstein, Kimberly Bright, Malcolm Carter, Dan Cressey, Nicky Crewe, Dastardly, Nick Dent-Robinson, Anthony Dhanendran, Cat Goodwin, Dave Goodwin, Tommy Gunnarsson, Keith How, Adrian Janes, Steve Kinrade, Richard Lewis, L. Paul Mann, Erick Mertz, Jon Rogers, Stephen Simkin, Lisa Torem, Cila Warncke and Denzil Watson, all of whom have contributed to this edition or our previous reviews update in mid-January. We will be back in late February with a reviews update and then in mid-March with s full edition.
