Hello and welcome to the late December/January edition of the Pennyblackmusic Magazine. 2017 has been a long and sobering year for us at Pennyblack. On February 12th Robert Fisher from the American alternative rock outfit the Willard Grant Conspiracy died aged 59 after a long battle with cancer. We had interviewed Robert many times over the years and in our early years in particular he introduced us to many of the great bands and musicians - Magic 12, Doghouse Roses, Steve Wynn etc - that we would then return to time and time again. Latterly we were regular promoters for the Willard Grant Conspiracy when they toured the UK, organising gigs for them in London, Glasgow and Edinburh. Illness has had a devastating effect on several of our writers this year, and on December 10th our writer Mary O’Meara also died after an immensely brave and dignified encounter again with cancer. We will be paying full tribute to Mary, who joined our team in January 2014, in our next magazine, which will be published at the end of January. She was both a great inspiration and a great friend, and it is a major loss. This edition is dedicated to both Robert and Mary’s memories with love, John Clarkson Magazine Editor www.penyblackmusic.co.uk
