intro
Fiery yet intelligent double A-sided debut single from impressive Liverpool-based indie four-piece the Racket
The Racket have perhaps done themselves a small disservice in their choice of name. They do indeed create a cacophonous, glorious noise with their twin guitars and singer Callum Codd's foghorn vocals, but they combine this with a sharp intelligence. 'Faded Days/Don't Know What to Say' is the debut single of the young Liverpool-based group, so and is also the first vinyl single of the always dependable Klee Music. 'Faded Days' captures all the frustration of being in a dead end job and blasts in its chorus line the minimum wage. 'Don't Know What to Say' has all the swagger of the early Oasis and finds Callum soulfully reflecting on a world that caters for the few rather than the many. They also have a wonderful sense of dynamics. 'Faded Days' throws in what seems to be an impromptu bass solo, and 'Don't Know What to Say' drops away at its mid-point to a shell of ticking drums and bass before rising upwards to a furious, vitriolic conclusion. Released just a few days before the UK General Election on the 2nd June, 'Faded Days/Don't Know What to Say' is the war cry of a bright youth against a world that has let them down.
