Impertinent garage punk on fourth LP from Californian quartet Audacity, which was produced by Ty Segall
This fourth LP from Californian quartet Audacity was produced by Ty Segall. When I heard it on CD, I adjusted the settings to analogue in software-speak...to build on the album's frenzied momentum. A poppy garage punk record, it consists of twelve classy melodic noise tunes, and has the classic six songs aside on the vinyl version. With each track clocking in at around two minutes, 'Hyper Vessels' could refer to the LP's swift and sturdy disposition. Hot-blooded venom channelled into their pumping veins, Audacity capture in the mean about thirty years of punk rock greatness. A series of zany explosions take effect as 'Hyper Vessels' proudly recalls the Buzzcocks, or further back in time still, Slade, Motorhead or Mud. With plenty of untested territory on the album, Audacity leap out in full garage glory, celebrating this set of a dozen novelty punk tune marvels. They are not the world's most gifted impersonators of punk rock perhaps, but close to the most impertinent. 'Hyper Vessels' is a testament to rampage and mayhem in moderation. Segall's skills are stamped all over the end production, and Audacity should exclamate the TY in the band's name. To no extent or to no end steaming up the engine, 'Hyper Vessels' is my Record of the Month, 2016's May Stampede.
