intro
Glorious indie-pop on debut single from Nottingham-based trio, No Disco!
Another slab of Nottingham magic comes in the shape of No Disco! An indie rock band from Nottinghamshire signed to Sound Hub records, they formed in mid 2013. 'Your Orange Car' is their debut single. It has already been championed by local media and BBC Introducing in the East Midlands, and, drawing the attention of many local radio stations as well, it has been deemed pretty good by the masses too as it has charted in the top 100 in the iTunes chart. It seems this bunch, named after a Depeche Mode album track, mean business too. They have set up a swanky new website to coincide with the launch soon of their first EP. Their Facebook site is rising on the 'Like' stakes and the future is looking orange. 'Orange Car' starts with frenetic drums and a mean guitar riff, but soon flips into indie mode and jangly jangles with the unmistakable vocals of Jack Cross who also plays guitar. The line-up is completed with Alex Ochrombel on bass and vocals and Rob Lord on drums and vocals too. To me, the lead track seems to be all about an imminent break up based in and around the brightly painted motor of the title. The flip, 'East Midlands Parkway', is about the relationships and past memories that get dragged up in arguments. It starts and finishes with a single guitar and races off in the middle like Jenson Button on speed. This is indie-pop at its glorious best. It sounds very polished and like the work of a band that has had major success for a long time. It's that well done. It all comes wrapped in a simple card sleeve with a picture of the offending vehicle on the front, and the CD itself is black and looks like a vinyl record...Marvellous.
