intro

Flimsy and predictable yet occasionally captivating electronica on debut album from British quartet, Capac

Capac doesn't mean a flying carpet, but their orchestral width and depth resounding drone music dreamscapes almost make one. Flimsy mind-films are their trademark. Capac's melodic electronica manoeuvres accompany Kate Smith's fairy queen vocals. Grooving along on basic channel rhythms, their flowing lazy lounge flow sound your bass speakers next on 'Prophet of the State'. Still drivel? Not entirely. After ten minutes though the formula wears out. Imagine that the Cocteau Twins have moved to Leipzig or Berlin and then lost touch. 'Sea Freeze' sounds as cosy as the Arctic shall ever be. Its icicle works generate beats to dance too though. The album's lush sound can be beguiling, even though most of the compositions are missing structure. Deprived of a concept, 'Sea Breeze', however, is a concept album. It best moment is saved to the last. 'Lark Lane' is a magnificent little track much in the vein of Michael Nyman, Murcof or Max Richter. A beautiful build-up of tension and resonance rounds off this predictable album.
