intro
Experimental yet surprisingly harmonic latest album from German progressive rock pioneers, Faust
In the early 1970s, Faust was the stalwart institution of progressive rock music in Germany, the contemporary of Kraftwerk and was of an equally pioneering nature. Without Faust, Stereolab wouldn't have existed; nor would have Tortoise. And, judging from the brash bassline on 'Sur Le Ventre' (on your belly) on ‘Just Us’, Faust's new and zillionth album, I also spot in its echoing sound a Steve Albini connection there. 'JustUs' confirms Faust’s freeform style, but harmony, however, prevails on it. Like a calm stream it strides forwards with pride. Melting slick wisdom with grit and adventurism, the album cannot go wrong. Brave and gentle, wise and strong, 'Just Us' is almost biblical.
