intro
Melanie Smith photographs controversial all girl pop/rock band the Courtesans at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester
"The hottest, most talked about, wicked female band in UK, performing in Manchester this evening, taking a walk on the wild side, with their darkly erotic powered show." Under the glow of the Ruby Lounge’s lights stand the all girl pop/rock band the Courtesans ready to let rip (featuring Sinead La Bella on vocals, Saffire Sanchez on guitar, Agnes D. Jones on bass and Vikki Brown on drums). The air is filled with the promise of a dark delight, a waft of sweet-smelling perfume, (I’m told it was ‘Lipsy’) mixed with latex, black tape, flesh and attitude. More than just photogenic pretty faces, they also know how to rock their socks off; they are unashamedly feminine, with a burlesque twist – think along the lines of Emilie Autumn. They can give the big boys a run for their money in the music stakes. Just don’t be fooled, however, by their sweet smiles. These are wickedly, dark vixens who have come to steal your heart and soul, and don’t take no prisoners. They also have a great sense of humour too. They bring the set to a close with the Velvet Underground cover, ‘Venus in Furs’ which is given a new lease of life, with its heavy, sensual element. The Courtesans are a band you need to see live. Go and liberate yourself, open your mind and check out the dates. They will be unleashing their debut album '1917' upon us early in the new year. Set List: Scream Indigo Dirty Killer Sleaze Swallow Lullaby Hard Man to Kill The Power Of Love (Frankie Goes To Hollywood cover) Genius Liberate Venus in Furs (Velvet Underground cover) Catch them on tour: 2015 February 14 - The Macbeth, London February 27 - The Box, Crewe February 28 - The Railway, Bolton http://thecourtesans.org https://www.facebook.com/thecourtesans Photos by Melanie Smith www.mudkissphotography.co.uk
