There's something rokken in the state of Greece, a famous playwright once said. And noblesse oblige, Bazooka provide plenty of cheer and slaughter on this debut album. Once in Volos, but from Athens now, two drummers hammer down tribal garage rock rhythms and provide a bit of burning sensation. Fuzz and mayhem from the ferocious guitars and vocals shape this archetype album of rock 'n' roll. Garage. Sixties. Mind you, this is a self-financed debut CD. 'Zen' is its overwhelming opening tune, blasting grunge melody lines into space. Like amphetamine reptiles, these psychotic Greek beasts leap, crawl and conquer through decades worth of punk music. Bazooka's 'Ravening Trip' for example fuses the Jesus And Mary Chain with Nirvana. Next, the ramshackling 'Bye Bye Girl' makes Bazooka even more excitable. Bazooka obviously have a soft spot too for Plastic Bertrand, hence 'Summer Song'. From thereon, this boiling barrel filled with riffs, psychedelic quirks and the sound from crumbling quiffs and cliffs ultimately explains how to 'Twist And Shout'. On the strength of 'Mountain S.A.' and 'Mr George', Bazooka could even put forward candidate members for the new sonic youth. On 'Church', Bazooka jingle-jangle back into tambourine merriness Even on the nightmarish 'Haunted House', this album sticks to its pop sensibility. To full enjoyment, Bazooka keep their English lyrics in basic mode. Nothing should get in the way of this great time out. Since the words are hard to follow, one automatically catches the drift of the music, and the irresistible flow of this album hold you in its grip the end of the album.
