intro
Minimalistic, but riveting latest album from electronic dub artist, Kouncilhouse
As a purveyor of dub beats, Kouncilhouse has kept his profile very low. From under the radar, now surfaces this selection on his album, '10 Years Too Late'. On a first hearing '10 Years Too Late' consists of seemingly modest electronic dub tracks, but these groovy adventures will soon grab your deeper attention. The dreamy repetition trademark of Kouncilhouse's work works well when he's tearing up them downbeats. 'Look Mum! No Hands! is a little masterpiece of looped bass play clashing with electronica sound fx. Such moments of wilful fantasy in music appear so often that the album seems lost like Alice In Dubland would be. The stubborn and sturdy skanking on the title track is majestic, with riffs from the busy dub breakbeats building up the jiggy riddim. '10 Years Too Late' stands testament to dubstep music. In hindsight, retrospect, however, does sound similar to respect, which would be more fitting as a tribute. These dry beats bring forth a feeling that you may have when listening to, for example, the productions of King Tubby. Consciously deep and yet as funky as wobbly minimalism in a sparse way can get, this is genuine orbital dub music.
