Miscellaneous - Pennyblackmusic Bands Night

intro

We profile our next Penny Black Music Bands' Night, which will take place on Saturday November 3rd at the Half Moon in Herne Hill, South London and feature sets from the Willard Grant Conspiracy, Rotifer, Bromide and NOW

Pennyblackmusic returns to their home at The Half Moon Herne Hill in South London on Saturday 3rd November 2012 with four great bands. THE WILLARD GRANT CONSPIRACY The last time the Willard Grant Conspiracy played a Pennyblackmusic Bands' Night, in November 2010, people were utterly transfixed by main man Robert Fisher's powerful, booming baritone, and Deep South and Gothic-influenced songs of despair, lust, drink and death. This will be Fisher's first London date in two years (he also played at the sadly now-closed Luminaire later on that tour). For this concert, Fisher will be playing solo. But with an all-powerful voice like his, who needs a band anyway? http://www.willardgrantconspiracy.com ROTIFER Fronted by Robert Rotifer, who has released several albums in his native Austria, Rotifer are something of an indie super-group. Their debut British CD, 'The Hosting Couple', has been released on Edwyn Collins' AED label and is in part about Rotifer's experiences as a twelve-year old in the 80's on a hosting arrangement in Canvey Island, Essex. He currently lives in Canterbury. Also in the band are the Television Personalities' Mike Stone who replaced Darren Hayman (ex-Hefner) on bass earlier this year, and former Death in Vegas guitarist Ian Button on drums. 'The Hosting Couple' was produced by one-time Stiff Records artist Wreckless Eric (he of the legendary 1977 punk song '(I'd Go the) Whole Wide World'. http://www.robertrotifer.co.uk BROMIDE Bromide is Essex-born, London-based Simon Berridge, plus assorted backing musicians of all ilks. Over four albums, he's refined a singer-songwriter sensibility close to heroes Lloyd Cole, Teenage Fanclub, Robyn Hitchcock, and the Only Ones, and along the way has shared the stage with everyone from Vic Chesnutt and Mark Eitzel to the mighty Spinmaster Plantpot. Bromide also host their own semi-regular 'scratchstock' nights at the 12 Bar Club on Denmark Street. Their latest, 'Some Electric Sometime', having been released this year on Berridge's own Scratchy Records, was produced by one time Gay Dad member 'Nigel of Bermondsey', and features a guest appearance from rising London singer Katy Carr. Should you need their services, Bromide also sell specialist laboratory water testing services and integrated CRM software. http://www.theinternetatemysoul.co.uk NOW Since 1998, NOW have established themselves as one of London's premium cult lo-fi/post-punk/Krautrock/out-there outfits, who have released nine albums and EPs together on labels like Pickled Egg and Disco-r-Dance, and have been described as making "harmonious and disharmonious 21st century pop music." They have served as ex-Can member Damo Suzuki's backing band; had a residency at east London's much-missed Foundry venue; collaborated with Hackney's very own space resident the Man From Uranus; played the legendary Kosmiche club; and toured Japan and Norway. NOW are constantly changing, constantly mutating into something new. http://nowband.wordpress.com Pennyblackmusic at The Half Moon Herne Hill 10 Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill, London, SE24 9HU Saturday 3rd November 2012 8 p.m. £6 in advance from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/186828 £7 on door http://www.pennyblackmusic.co.uk http://www.halfmoonpub.co.uk
