intro
In a double feature 'Photoscape', Marie Hazelwood photographs Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds at the Liverpool Echo Arena
When the warring Gallagher brothers finally broke up Oasis acrimonously in the late summer of 2009, many predicted that it would be a matter of weeks before they got back together. Liam has since then gone on to meet with success with his clothing range Pretty Green and band Beady Eye, which he established immediately in the aftermath of Oasis' break-up, and which also features guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell and drummer Chris Sharrock, all of whom were in the final line-up of Oasis. Older brother Noel, who was often seen as the songwriter in Oasis, has gone on to do even better still with his group, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. While Noel's describes it as a "solo act" so that he can tellingly maintain full control, the High Flying Birds also currently consists of former Oasis session pianist Mike Rowe, drummer Jeremy Stacey of The Lemon Trees, The Zutons bassist Russell Pritchard and guitarist Tim Smith. The group's self-titled debut album has since gone on to sell over 600,000 copies, over four times the nuumber of Beady Eye's first album, 'Different Gears, Still Speeding'. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds recently played an arena tour of the UK, and this double feature of photographs, which show the High Flying Birds performing with a gospel choir, were taken by Marie Hazelwood at a show at the Liverpool Echo Arena on the 6th September.
