intro
Energetic and autobiographical third single about the loneliness of city living from Singapore-born, but now London-based electro pop artist, Sharliza Jelita
Sharliza Jelita is delightfully charming as her videos prove. Her new “electro” pop single, ‘Claustrophobia’, is a follow up to last year’s ‘No Go Pogo’ and the hilarious ‘Is That Your Underwear On The Floor?’ All of these tunes will appear on her soon-to-be released album, 'Strange Things'. Jelita, an orphan at 15, became an observer of various lifestyles across the spectrum of humanity. ‘Claustrophobia’ may be her most autobiographical original, as it speaks to the loneliness of city living and the desire to escape. Previously she sang in the Rrrs and was a guitarist in Death Metal Disco Scene. She has been greatly influenced by Hot Chip, Sterolab and Janelle Monae. Sonically ‘Claustrophobia’ is vivacious pop splendour. It doesn’t have the zany quality evident in the other mentioned songs, but it is fun, lively and full of Jelita’s marvellous energy. It may be the most conventional of the trilogy, but it is by no means less entertaining.
