Southern are a Belfast-based acoustic-electric indie folk outfit which is centred around brother and sister Tom Southern (vocals, guitar) and Lucy Southern (vocals). The band has played support slots to Pete Doherty, the Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Mason, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, and John Oates, and has recently added to its line-up bassist Adam Booth and drummer Gerry Morgan. Southern released their debut EP, ‘World Don’t Shine’, last year, which was recorded, engineered and produced by Thom in his bedroom. For their as-yet-untitled second EP, they travelled to Liverpool at the end of January to finish if off (unfortunately without Lucy who had to stay in Belfast because she had exams) at Parr Street Studios, where bands such as Coldplay, Elbow and Genesis have all also recorded. These portrait photographs were taken by Marie Hazelwood of them while they were in Liverpool.
