PENNYBLACKMUSIC PRESENT A NIGHT OF INDIE-POP SATURDAY 19TH NOVEMBER 2011 GULLIVERS, OLDHAM STREET, MANCHESTER The Experimental Pop Band – Fronted by indie legend Davey Woodward the band are well into their 16th year and have a new LP tentatively titled 'Boxing Gloves Versus The Crayon Set' in the pipeline. Their set will draw heavily from the forthcoming album, but with this being the first Manchester date the band have performed in nearly 8 years, they are sure to throw in a few gems from their impressive back catalogue. Worshipped by the indie kids of Germany, guitar/keyboard based pop doesn’t get any better than this. Brilliant Mind – One of a clutch of fine bands that have surfaced in the North East in recent times. A definite C86 jingle-jangle flavour to their music as witnessed on their sold out debut single 'Our Osprey" that was, in true DIY style, released as a cassingle only. They also featured on the superb Fierce Panda ‘Zip It Up’ EP alongside similar acts such as The Crookes and The Heartbreaks. Hopefully they will have a new single available to buy on the night. Becca & The Broken Biscuits – Making considerable waves in and around, Manchester, Becca’s voice has to be heard to be believed. Songs such as 'Train Drive'" (check the video out on You Tube) and 'Bellyachin’ are hidden folk-pop classics. It’s no wonder they recently supported Roddy Womble or that one of their shows was broadcast on local radio. Worth the admission fee alone. Davey Woodward – Davey is a veteran of the music scene, having cut his teeth in his native Bristol as leader of the rather wonderful The Brilliant Corners, who made a reasonable splash in the mid 1980’s with some excellent indie-pop records such as 'What’s In A Word' and 'Somebody Up There Likes Me'. By the mid 1990’s, after the demise of The Brilliant Corners, Davey resurfaced with a new band The Experimental Pop Band, who as the name suggests were slightly more experimental than The Brilliant Corners without cutting back on the pop! Last year whilst The EPB were still deciding on what direction their next album should take, Davey released his debut solo LP '6 Miles East Of Here, 5 Miles North Of Nowhere', to fine critical acclaim. Slightly folky, slightly lo-fi, slightly downbeat, Davey is an engaging live performer and often includes re-worked versions of Brilliant Corners’ tracks in his set. Tickets are £6 in advance from www.wegottickets.com/event/137084 and £8 on the door.
