intro
Mesmerising and addictive dubstep on latest album from London-based musician, Kromestar
Kromestar, a genuine craftsman of dubstep, now has his 'Colourful Vibrations' single series comprised as one whole album. Before he has performed as Droid. His style changed when he adopted the name of Kromestar and for once an album title holds true; the vibes on this album indeed cover the entire spectrum. Kromestar performs the smoothest dubstep beats currently available, on album and CD that is, and for the time being as a download,. The 'Colourful Vibrations' add flower to this East-London brew. His deep dub and 2-step grooves, however, work best on vinyl. Yet for the most part, the Kromestar teaches you how to dubstep only like a Dutch Uncle could, and 'Colour Vibrations' as a result begs for repeated listenings. What is concocted up in jolly dance tunes here fully deserves a place of its own. Kromestar produces mesmerizing dubsteps and freeform melody lines at the same time. The album carries a tremendous sense of tranquility, and these are combined with itchy dub reggae-induced touches. In the CD format, 'Sweet Nightmares', provides the first stunners of sound, and a drilling bass line clashes with eerie effects. 'Konfuzed' contains even more busy signals, like those from ship horns. Gradually cinematic jazz seamlessly melts in with the deep bass. 'A Stroll in the Night' goes on to personify a mixed sensibility with odd bell and xylophone sounds. The album features only a few vocal samples. On 'Shake It' the vocal and the beats are minimalistic, but result in an itchy, bumping and magnificent workout. The closing track track on CD, 'Distant Father', is a return to synthesizer dubstep and now the monks are asked in to provide vocals. An addictive album to say the least.
