intro
Maie Hazelwood photographs Liverpool indie rock/dance band the Rialto Burns at a show at the Moho in Manchester
Liverpool quintet the Rialto Burns take their name from a 1981 newspaper headline that described the burning down of the Rialto ballroom, a popular local venue, during the Toxteth Riots. The group, which consists of Adam (vocals), Pottsy (bass), Alex and Coggsy (guitars) and Dan (drums), play music that is similarily incendiary, and their dark, epic sound has drawn them comparisons with Depeche Mode, New Order and local heroes Echo and the Bunnymen. The Rialto Burns' mini debut album, 'For the Asking', came out on dance/indie label Gung Ho! Recordings in May. The young band, who have playing together for a year, have already played out sold out shows in Liverpool, and were one of the highlight acts at its recent Sound City festival. They have recently been playing shows further afield, and these photographs by Marie Hazelwood were taken at a gig on the 1st July at the Moho in Manchester.
