Mainekk - Dance, Dance and Rotate
Label: Erki Pärnoja
Format: CD

intro

Obstinately original instrumental rock on debut album from Danish, Swedish and Estonian collective which combines together elements of post rock, folk and surf music

This is a pleasantly puzzling instrumental album from the Baltic shores. The sleeve was commissioned in Estonia( Eesti Kultuurkapital!), the album was recorded at a country house, vintage mastered and released in Sweden and mixed in Copenhagen. Mainekk's sound comes indeed in cycles as it has a kind of loose and folky post-rock which at times becomes really mean and loud. The ten modest but intriguing tracks also incorporate rumbling surf music on 'A Call for Batman', which you can listen to on their MySpace! Though not representative of 'Dance dance and rotate' it is truly a smashing tune. The entire album manages to keep your attention because of its unique mishmash. The limited means of the recording don´t matter. 'Dance Dance and Rotate' gets you on the wrong foot time and time again. Mainekk are obstinately original. I hope the CD sells out quickly and we can have an LP edition. I wouldn´t have wanted to miss out on Mainekk´s debut.
