intro
Our Website of the Month is the website of Yorkshire-based group the Phil Brodie Band, which contains large numbers of music trivia and miscellaneous facts
I don't want to brag, but last month's column on ukuleles was so convincing that worldwide uke sales increased by one at least. (And that person can probably now play better than me). Being aware of just how much power and influence I now wield, I have resolved to only use my powers for the good. So this month I plan to turn you all into pub quiz music round geniusii. Now, unless I take over the whole server there will not be enough space to tell you everything contained within the Aladdin's cave that is www.philbrodieband.com From endless random facts,(my current favourite is tie between knowing Alice Cooper was once elected Homecoming Queen for the University Of Houston and being able to amaze my friends with the knowledge there are twenty three faked orgasms performed by Donna Summer in 'Love to Love You Baby'),to a monthly plethora of music trivia, deaths, birthdays and charts. You and I both know that you have a burning need to know the complete running order of Live Aid - and the time each band played. Then there is the location of every star on the Hollywood walk of fame, every UK no 1 single and album, a list of songs in which the final lyrics are actually the title of the track AND a bonus load of fun and joke pages. I suspect the site was primarily conceived to advertise the Phil Brodie Band and showcase their particular brand of big guitar driven tribute rock. And in fairness their pedigree is pretty impressive. I didn't realise they were a local band honest, (my Yorkshiredar obviously kicked in somewhere) and I am tempted to check out their next local show... watch this space. There is a list (naturally) of bands they played with as both the Phil Brodie Band and Bitter Suite as well as a chance to listen to their take on 'Pretty Woman', 'Voodoo Chile', 'Hey Joe' and more. But the endless sprawling nature of the trivia, lists and artist profiles and just STUFF makes it both a gold mind and a black vortex into which time disappears while you Columbo style, check out 'just one more thing'. This isn't the sharpest designed website ever. In fact it is pretty basic but it has that Ronseal charm of doing what it says on the tin. And with all this additional knowledge you will soon be wiping out the opposition in your local pub quiz. All I ask in return is a rum and coke from your winnings, fair?
