intro
Poetically evocative and dreamy new single from Manchester-based Americana act, Anna Kashfi,
Manchester’s Anna Kashfi is featured on a stirring and poetic new single, on which it is stated, “I was born when you kissed me, I died when you left.” If that sentiment doesn’t exemplify the anatomy of heartbreak, what could? Singer/composer Sian Webley offers a delicate winsome interpretation, while frankly nudging, “do you think I can fall in love with you?” This plaintive question lays against a meditative, muted and dreamy background. Fortunately, there is more to come, as this cut is also the opening track of their third album ‘Survival’ released at the start of this year. The flip side ‘Gold Day’ is a cover of Sparklehorse’s ‘Gold Day.’ It’s the kind of translucent lullaby we all wish we’d been put to sleep by. It’s tender and brimming with affection. It’s also a deep influence of the Anna Kashfi collaboration. “Good morning, my child. Stay with me a while/It’s time for you to rise,” Webley suggests. Multi-instrumentalist James Youngjohn’s equally subdued flavourings enhance Webley’s sensibilities. The band was named after American actor Marlon Brando’s ex-wife who sadly wound up living in a California-based trailer park. The music of Anna Kashfi could, however, liven up any living space.
