Kyle Bobby Dunn - A Young Person's Guide to Kyle Bobby Dunn
Label: La Point
Format: CD

intro

Captivating and mature debut double CD album from young New York-based minimalist composer Kyle Bobby Dunn

In 2009 young minimalist composer Kyle Bobby Dunn made this album available on the weblabel Moodgadget for free. Now Low Point have decided to give it a genuine release with an extra eight tracks collecting recordings from the same period. The two CDs in this collection are best played back-to-back as many of its tracks have a similar warm glowing resonance. They are the musical equivalent of a quiet day on a deserted sunny beach or quay. Emotive as well as introspective this young person's guide attains a grand balance. 'Sets of Four' on disc two marks a change, returning to a demo piano recording when the New York-based Dunn was barely 20 years of age. 'A Young Person's Guide to Kyle Bobby Dunn' was recorded from 2005 through until last year. It is a captivating two-hour listen that doesn't feel as long as such. To me, Dunn seems to draw inspiration from songbirds and urban landscapes alike. The first four tracks on disc one, which formed the original download album, however, have a distinctive minimal sound which highlights both beauty and feelings of estrangement. This mature calmness is striking for such a young chap.
